Skyrim SE modding FAQ

As many of you may already know, the Skyrim SE is up and running. From a personal experience, it runs great and smooth given you have appropriate hardware.
I would say this is how Skyrim vanilla should have been about 5 years back, the 64 bit and DX11.
Most of you may probably say "there is nothing new...same old same" etc.

The release of SSE was not about bringing new game but fixing exactly what everyone was complaining about - CTD, 32 bit, better visuals and nothing more. There was never a single promise about a new game or new graphics, simply set we've got what we exactly asked, a 64 bit and that's working so far flawless after running 24 hours on my 5-year-old PC.
When anyone attempts to compare modded old Skyrim vs. new SE version, please keep in mind this is an unfair comparison and if you truly need to compare you should load vanilla vs vanilla.
And here are some answers for upcoming modding for new SSE and Dem mods.

Q: There is no SKSE and no SkyUI and all mods dependent on SKSE. I need my SKSE back and refuse to play this vanilla sh$t. Where is my SKSE?

A: SKSE team is already working on creating a 64-bit version of DLL, however, they do not have any promise when it will be released. Once it is out to the public the dependant mods would be updated by mod authors if they are willing to do so. If not you are welcome to update mod using new CK64, the process should be simple for experienced modders. one caveat you can't release the updates since you are not the mod author.

Q:Are old LB/DEM mods will be converted to SE?
A: Based on Krista answers on modgamers forum, probably yes, but only after the CK64 is released (currently beta), without a tool it is not possible Latest update, CK64 is released and is available trough Bethesda launcher. Even after the CK is released we should keep in mind all animations must be also updated because of new formats but only after the Havoc tool is ready. Additionally, new SE is using new form of meshes. Nevertheless, all old meshes should work with SE but they may drain system resources and should be also upgraded for a better stability.

Q: Would be DEM for SSE translated as it was with old Skyrim?
A: Sure, you should expect newly translated ESP files once the original are available.
All newly translated files of old mods will be hosted on original mod posts and all newly created mods will host new translation respectively.

Just remember, fully modded Skyrim as we have it now was not created overnight on 11/12/2011, it took many years and sleepless nights by a horde of modders to make and fix Skyrim look and feel. Now we have a much better platform and also let's not forget most of our favorite mods can be easily converted if original authors would do the job or pass it on to another modder.

Chears,
Vlad

  1. For the most part DEM mods are working for me in SSE. I had some animation issues to over come and there are some armor mods that will need some tweaking. But overall it is going well.

    1. I have no issues with animations, the tool provided converts them all in seconds. At the moment I have only one problem is not saving Dem hair and everytime I start the game she is bold.

  2. this is great to hear, I tired Installing Eve 2.1 and all it did was make SE no longer launch, I Miss all my Dem/Eve mods as result, but SE runs much smoothing.

    1. We just have to wait for an official update release by Krista of DEM for SSE. I've converted DEM as proof of concept on my PC using new CK64 and she looks great as before without any ENB and best of all without those infamous bronze lines on her skin. Unfortunately without ENB a SSS is not available making her skin look a bit plastic. From the sound on ENB site Boris probably will make a new ENB just like in FO4.

  3. I have never use ENB so i wouldnt know I just happy my favorite mods will be updated

There was a "no more bronze" mod that remove those for certain mods that I was using I guess it worked with DEM too cause i never saw thein in dem/eve mods

    1. I don't think you would be needing this "no more bronze" mod with SSE, I am currently testing DEM in SSE without ENB and I do not see and bronze effect on her skin. To clarify - there is not official DEM conversion to SSE, I used new CK64 to update the mod for my own testing purpose, so please do not ask to share until official is released.

    2. I am not using the no more bronze mod in SE and I dont see the bronze lines anymore they was highly annoying, Also wasnt asking for your personal conversion I mostly referring to "Hans Bastards" saying they mostly worked cause none actual mods worked for they never launched they game if i tried installing them.

I just miss the mods like I miss SKyui seeing i just remember it was what gave the buff overlays

    3. FYI, you can still use SKYUI 2.2 in SSE, but with 1 error.

    4. Yah I am aware, sadly the Icon for buff dont work with out SKSE, and I never liked Skyui so used Skyui away too. only used it for the buff icon overlay

Unless some else make new UI I dont think it will matter seeing creator said they have no intention on converting it.

    1. Once Krista would release official conversion it would be translated, although I do not touch LB.
Not sure if she ever will combine them, however, anyone can merge multiple esp files for personal use.
IDK what vanilla armour is listed on her blog, there is a version by AveBrave already in English.

  6. I am aware of AveBrave last i tried it there were issue with it dont know about now, I am talking about this

As for the personal merging of armor stuff, you say i can just dump all the armor/gear mods into say in dem 2.1 zip and in theroy it will istall them all?

    1. At this point I am avare Ave did not update his mod to SSE as well the DEM Vanilla by BIARU. They are both modded for the original Skyrim and may have mesh issues in SSE. At least mesh optimization is required.
If you know how to optimize meshes and have a basic knowledge of CK you could update the mod for your personal use only, no publishing whatsoever.

And by merging I meant merging all ESP at least using SSEEDIT, then packing all scripts, meshes and textures into a single BSA if you wish or use loose files.
I've done it for personal use and it works just fine in SSE (see my latest pictures Flickr). Now we have to wait for Krista and other mod authors to update everything they created so far to SSE version.

The second option (easy) of repacking all ESP and texture files into a single 7Z or RAR should also work for you, this way it would be easy to update each separate mod in case where author would publish a new update.

  7. but in theory I could pack all the mods in to one 7zip file and put said file in NMM and in "Theory" it should extract them all and be use able?

As for Basic knowledge I made my own plugin to make Graybread robes playable and craft able and I "think" I converted my Eye mode I use to SE with the new CK. fixing meshes and texture i dont know how to do nor will really bother, Ave mod has issues with meshes and textures that made the toon go bald or nake.

IF you know site that can help with converting that as simple as just leting it repack it for SE as I will not edit meshes or textures to fix issues. which seem to turn the losed files from my eye mod i convert to just .esp .bsa the eye mod works as it should as far as i can tell to

  8. That is correct and I already mentioned that above, the easy option. repacking into a single 7Z all DEM mods is OK with use in NMM, never failed me. The hard way is to merge all esp files as one.
About optimizing meshes, I think it's always a good idea to ask an author's first if they're planning to update a mod before doing anything. Just an advise.

  9. I have asked them, it more I curious on how to do, if author dont want to. I tried to convert one armor i have it didnt work I am assuming it cause it has both DDS and NIF which the eye mod i converted only had DDS
